Chptr is a mobile-first memorialization platform to gather, share, and hold memories for a lost loved one's life for generations to come.

One of the few taboo subjects left is that of death and passing. Largely because it’s no easy thing to deal with if you’ve lost someone close to you, or someone you admired, so talking about it is often avoided. The founder of new mobile app CHPTR came to us after losing his grandmother wanting to find a way to celebrate her life, but more than just for him – for anyone else who has suffered similar loss.

THE VISION

His vision was a community, built around memorializing lost loved ones. Open to anyone that knew them, it would continue to grow as people pay their love and respect through images, video and words to those they have lost, regardless of when.

All he had was this idea and a name : CHPTR, it was up to us to form a complete concept, built on this vision.

ECOMMERCE

Central to CHPTR’s strategy was the development of a free app, necessitating a revenue generation model. The logical next step was to conceptualize and introduce a marketplace as a new source of revenue. We assisted in the conceptualization and design of this marketplace, aimed at enabling family members and friends to create beautifully printed and bound book memorials dedicated to their loved ones. Additionally, the marketplace offered various grief support resources, including books and products designed to assist individuals through the grieving process. This approach not only provided a valuable service but also diversified the ways in which CHPTR could generate income.

We knew that it had to be mobile based. A simple way for anyone to upload and share pictures and videos that required little effort on their part and make it easy to share with others and bring them together.

Our design team spent significant time figuring out all the paths one would need to take when first setting up a CHPTR (the name given to each individual’s ‘memorial’), but then sharing with others, and ensuring a seamless process for contributing to them, and everything in between.

Wireframes were drawn up that detailed these ‘flows’ which were tested on phones constantly to ensure efficiency.

The intense passion, love, and expertise you brought to this project was something I did not expect…. So much of my confidence comes from little elephant serving as the mascot for a brand that, despite being in its infancy, feels established and like it's been a part of this world for a long time.

BRANDING

Sweden Unlimited also developed the full brand identity for Chptr. Drawing inspiration from the poignant story of elephants’ enduring memories, we introduced an emblem that symbolizes enduring love and remembrance, aimed at memorializing the departed.
